Do teens really need a caffeine buzz?

I do love good coffee, and probably will always enjoy the smell of it brewing.  However, these days I only have it a couple of times a week and it’s often decaffeinated. I gave up having coffee every day because I started to get headaches when I didn’t have my caffeine fix. The annoying headache was just not worth the enjoyment of the coffee to me. But, I’m an adult. Are you pregnant and having problems with your gums?

You may have pregnancy gingivitis 

In the dental office where I worked, Susan was one of our regular patients that came every 6 months for her check up and cleaning. She had good oral hygiene, brushed and flossed every day but about a month before her 6 month appointment she called saying her gums were very swollen and red. She thought she wasn’t doing a good job of taking care of her mouth. When she arrived for her appointment she told us she was 4 months pregnant! We told her she was not neglecting her teeth but probably had pregnancy gingivitis. Continue reading

West Nile Virus is still active: Be Bite Free even in Sept.

As summer progresses, mosquito-borne infections become more common. Typically we don’t get West Nile virus (WNV) positive mosquitoes in Halton until late July or August, but this year mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile virus much earlier than past years.  Likely due to the warm weather.  The first two probable human cases were reported in Halton on August 3, 2012. An earlier start to the cycle could potentially lead to more West Nile virus cases in humans. Continue reading
